The Phlebotomy Technician Certificate (PTC) non-credit program provides hybrid (classroom and online) instruction, laboratory simulation, and clinical site placement to train phlebotomy technicians. The program includes topics specifically related to phlebotomy, such as human body systems, obtaining and handling blood specimens, laboratory tests, blood collection equipment, safety and preparedness, infection control, venipuncture, dermal (capillary) puncture, special phlebotomy procedures, and other related skills. Program participants learn about practicing professional behavior, explore Berkshire County community health resources, and review professional career pathways related to phlebotomy. The program prepares participants to earn a Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The program will enroll 12 participants for Fall 2021 with classes starting on September 2, 2021. Face-to-Face instruction will be provided on the Berkshire Community College campus twice a week in three-hour sessions (69 hours), online instruction is provided asynchronously for 21 hours, and clinical experience will include at least 40 clinical hours at a site in Berkshire County. Clinical experience is scheduled after completion of in-class learning and simulation tab training.
