Chinese brush painting is about the balance of nature and the inter-relatedness and complexity of all things. Xie yi hua is one of many styles of traditional painting and in this class, students will learn philosophical, cultural, and technical aspects of this ancient art, which is in and of itself, a language of symbolic brush strokes. Working on rice paper with Chinese ink and watercolors, Zhong-hua will teach step-by-step, how to control brush, color, and water to create natural motifs - from rocks, trees, birds, fish, flowers and bees to complex landscapes. This focused practice has a meditative, calming effect on the artist. All are welcome.
Zhong-hua Lu was a finalist for the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Traditional Arts in 2015. He has taught at Mass MoCA, The Capital District Center for the Arts, The NY State Theatre Institute and Williams College.
