Evan Lurie, Consultant
In partnership with Berkshire Music School, this workshop will focus on the fundamentals of composing music for film. Students will receive a film scene without music to score. These compositions will be presented to the participants for discussion led by the instructor, focusing on students' selections of instruments, musical themes, tempo, and placement. Time permitting, we will also analyze scenes from classic films, examining the choices made by their composers. Students who lack necessary equipment for class assignments may utilize a station in the BCC music lab, provided it is not already in use by other students. Evan Lurie: a 40 year career composing for film and television includes being the lead composer and musical director for the Nick Jr show The Backyardigans. His music can be heard in films ranging from David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook to the comedies of Roberto Benigni. A decades long collaboration with Stanley Tucci includes most recently CNN's Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy. As a performing pianist, he has toured North and South America, Europe, and Asia as a solo act and as a leader of his own groups.
